Short description of the project idea/activities

The project aims at providing job opportunities for senior people who live in apartment blocks. Major part of Lithuanian population lives in apartment blocks, however these small communities encounter numerous challenges related to obsolete buildings, inefficient heating systems, poor management. Meanwhile, there live many active people who could find new job opportunities based on their previous experience. They could strengthen local communities and modernise apartment blocks with special focus on energy efficiency and environment protection. Both Lithuania and Belarus have accumulated positive experience in this area as well as identified problems which could better be tackled by common efforts and actions.

Proposed activities include:

·       training senior people in house management, efficient and environment-friendly energy systems, preparation and financial assessment of projects of modernisation of apartment blocks. Further assisstance to these trainees so that they can obtain official certificates and licences necessary to take job positions in this area, first of all as managers or energy specialists in their living homes;

·       establishment of an Efficient Building Laboratory equipped with necessary tools, instruments, guidelines and intended to perform quality investigation of apartment blocks, which need improvement in the project regions of Belarus and Lithuania.

·       making technical-financial evaluations of a number of selected apartment blocks in Belarus and Lithuania to propose good solutions and facilitate decision making by dwellers;

·       creation of a web site “Bank of expert knowledge” dedicated to offer expert services to various institutions, organisations, companies. The list of experts will include professional people of pre-retirement age as well as retired people. The bank will act as an intermediary between senior experts and potential clients.
